Michael Stipe dei REM

Michael Stipe of R.E.M. is back and has chosen Faenza Group for his latest book

After the dissolution of R.E.M. in 2011, Michael Stipe rediscovered one of his first loves – photography – and put music on the back burner. In March 2018 he released his first work “Volume 1” which was published by Damiani and printed by Faenza Group using offset technology. This photography book, which received great public and critical acclaim, contains 35 photographs created and collected by Stipe during his 37-year career.

At the beginning of July Michael Stipe’s new book “Our Interference Times: a visual record” will be available in bookstores, once again published by Damiani and printed by Faenza Group. This volume has been printed using offset H-UV technology, whose colour rendering and printing quality is next to none, even on high-grade paper.

This is an important qualitative leap for Michael Stipe who, for his latest book, has chosen the best printing technology available on the market: offset H-UV printing by Faenza Group. Using this technology, products can be printed in eight-colour H-UV thanks to the innovative polymerization technique, delivering brilliant photos and colours even on high-grade paper.

“Our Interference Times: a visual record” is Michael Stipe’s second book and reflects his multifaceted artistic personality. In his second work Stipe, together with writer and artist Douglas Coupland, examines how analogue culture, which defined our past, interacts with the digital world, creating our present and future.

The photos in the book have been taken from Michael Stipe’s vast archive of personal images. They have been chosen to create a graphic and visual blend, called a moiré pattern (which literally means an interference), merging visual memories of the past with traces of our future memory through a tug-of-war between light, pixels and halftones.

Faenza Group was chosen by Michael Stipe for his two books to project him back into the public eye, thanks to the expertise and the printing technologies it has built up over the past forty years.
