Between boundaries and infinity, ‘Transcendence’ for VeniceArtFactory

Wallace Chan’s titanium sculptures on display in Venice

On display from 19th April to 30th September 2024, in the Chapel of the Church of Santa Maria della Pietà in Venice, the exhibition Transcendence, featuring the works of Chinese artist Wallace Chan, a pioneer in the use of titanium for large-scale sculptures. The exhibition was created in collaboration with VeniceArtFactory, a team of professionals who have been providing consulting services for the design, curation, and management of art exhibitions and events in Venice for over 10 years.

Transcendence, curated by James Putnam, is an installation consisting of four large-scale titanium sculptures suspended from the ceiling of the Chapel. Imposing sculptures, suspended not only from the ceiling but also from the concepts of time, space, boundaries, and eternity.

In this way, the eclectic author wants to express, through the resilient resistance of titanium, the desire for a meditative state, but also to tell how the mind can overcome the limits and boundaries of space and time. But not only that: with his powerful sculptures, the artist wants to underline the importance of knowing how to transform conflicts into opportunities for growth and evolution.

A Prestigious Book to Present Transcendence

The arrangement of the works within the Chapel also suggests the gradual passage from a state of conflict to one of tranquility, just as the material used, titanium, is in a liminal state between liquid and solid. Lastly, between dream and reality, between possible and impossible, Chan with his sculptures transcends human nature and its fragile and, at the same time, strong and resistant being.

The ethereal magnitude of these sculptures and their progression from one state to another has been excellently illustrated in the prestigious book, written and curated by James Putnam, specifically created by Faenza Printing for the exhibition.

An elegant and well-curated 10.5×16.5cm sized book, with 36 pages printed in 4-color with water-based varnish.

On its 200gsm matt coated pages, texts and images describe Transcendence and its great evocations, bringing those who browse the book right there, under those large sculptures suspended between time and space.

The cover, mysterious and ‘transcendent’, is made of 350gsm Fedrigoni Allpack Black E/R Diana paper, with 2-color hot foil stamping on the front and rear.

The exclusivity of the book is completed by the special Dutch binding (i.e. flexi cover) with round spine.

Once again, we have been entrusted with the printing and production of a prestigious art book, in which craftsmanship, technology and printing quality stand out, as well as the extraordinary ability to interpret magnificent works of art and convey their meaning to the reader.
